Analog Devices iCOUPLER Help monitor medical devices remotely

     Analog Devices announced that Lantronix has selected Analog Devices' iCoupler digital isolator technology to build its new family of wireless communications network servers. The EDS-MD family of multi-port medical device servers represents the latest achievement in medical communications and features a compact, secure and lightweight plastic housing that enables remote control and system-level management of a wide range of medical devices.

     The new family of web servers is designed specifically to meet the stringent regulations and safety standards of the healthcare industry, including IEC-60601-1, EN 6061-1-2 and UL 6061-1. ADI's patented digital isolator technology offers unique benefits, including the ability to isolate and protect the current isolation of EDS servers and other connected medical devices during ground failures.

     According to ABI Research, total global sales of Wi-Fi-enabled healthcare products will grow nearly 70 percent from today to nearly $5 billion in 2014. With a $20 billion budget allocated to digitizing medical records in the U.S. stimulus bill and a major overhaul of the entire health care industry, there is unprecedented interest in wireless opportunities in health care.
